Question

How do I invest in startups?

Two paths — direct or via a fund — and both carry significant risk.

For informational purposes only. Not an offer to sell or solicitation to buy any security. Submitting interest is not an offer, acceptance, allocation, or eligibility determination.

Direct answer

You either write checks directly into individual companies and manage diligence and risk yourself, or you commit capital as an LP in a venture fund and the manager builds a portfolio on your behalf.

Before you invest

  • Understand the risk profile (total loss is common at the company level)
  • Plan for illiquidity over 7–12+ years
  • Only allocate capital you do not need for many years
  • Consult appropriate legal and tax professionals
